Conference USA: UCF, Houston, & SMU plan to honor contract, stay until 2013

In a interview with the Orlando Sentinel, University of Central Florida president John Hitt said he does not foresee UCF competing in the Big East until 2013.

Conference USA bylaws state the earliest UCF can compete in the Big East is the start of the 2013 football season. UCF also must pay a bond insured percentage of nearly $7 million in Conference USA exit fees. UCF officials told the Sentinel the fees would not be a problem for the Knights.

UCF, SMU and Houston leaders participated in a conference call with C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky and other conference leaders Thursday to discuss an exit plan.

"I think their expectation is that we'll honor that contract," Hitt said of C-USA leaders. "And if that's what they think ought to happen, that's what we'll do."
