A quick look at the three head coaching vacancies in Conference USA basketball:
1) UAB has denied reports that they had offered their head coaching position to Ole Miss’s Andy Kennedy.
2) Tubby Smith refuted reports that he is a candidate for Tulsa’s head coaching vacancy. The current Minnesota coach started his career at Tulsa, leading the Golden Hurricanes from 1991-1995.
Tulsa should start interviewing candidate’s in the next 7 to 10 days, they are expected to meet with Oral Roberts coach Scott Sutton and Valparaiso’s Scott Drew.
3) According to the Dallas Morning News, SMU is planning to make a run at Marquette head coach Buzz Williams. Williams has deep ties to the lone star state, growing up in Van Alstyne Texas before attending college at Oklahoma City University. Other possible candidates include Duke assistant Jeff Capel and recently fired Nebraska coach Doc Sadler.
