Marshall got it's first win of the Conference USA basketball tournament Wednesday afternoon, beating SMU 74-56 in Memphis's FedEx Forum. With the win, the Thundering Herd advances to a quarterfinal match-up against Tulsa at 3:30pm EST tomorrow.
Second team all C-USA selection DeAndre Kane lead the Herd with 18 points and three steals. Despite an early knee injury, senior point guard Damier Pitts recovered with an impressive second half in route to 16 points. On the glass Marshall out-rebounded SMU 43-31, lead by Dennis Tinnon's 15 boards.
