SMU became the second Conference USA school looking for a new basketball coach yesterday, firing Matt Doherty after six seasons. In his six years with the Mustangs Doherty only complied 80 wins compared to 109 losses. This season SMU finished 13-19 and lost to Marshall in the first round of the C-USA Tournament.
The Dallas Morning News is reporting that recently fired Nebraska coach Doc Sadler, Duke assistant Jeff Capel, UT-Arlington head coach Scott Cross, and North Texas’s Johnny Jones are early candidates to replace Doherty.
