Marshall Football: Trevor Black dismissed & other spring practice notes

Per various Twitter reports, junior defensive end Trevor Black has been dismissed from Marshall’s football team. Black appeared in eight games last year, registering 20 tackles.

Also, running backs Travon Van and Tron Martinez will not be available for spring drills while recovering from surgery. Van and Martinez combined to run for 1,306 yards last season and six touchdowns.

On the quarterback front, redshirt freshman Blake Frohnapfel will be participating on a limited basis but, don’t expect him to throw much. Frohnapfel had surgery on his throwing shoulder in late November. On occasion, quarterbacks coach Tony Peterson will relieve the Herd’s one healthy QB, Rakeem Cato, to protect the sophomores arm.

One last note, Donald Brown has returned to the Thundering Herd on a probationary basis. The safety will be a full participant during spring practice.
