Johnson out at USM & Tulsa AD involved in FBI probe

After a winless season, Southern Miss fired football coach Ellis Johnson yesterday. Johnson was in the first year of a four year contract to lead the Golden Eagles.  

The Hattiesburg American sites a number of potential replacements including North Carolina offensive coordinator Blake Anderson, Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Louisiana-Monroe coach Todd Berry, and Louisiana Lafayette coach Mark Hudspeth.

In other Conference USA news, Tulsa athletic director Ross Parmley was suspended with pay on Tuesday after the FBI tied him to an illegal gambling operation run by an Oklahoma City bookie.

In a interview with the FBI, Parmley admitted to betting on college and professional football games for years before stopping in 2010. Parmley has worked in Tulsa’s athletic department since 2005 and was named athletic director last January.

At this time no criminal charges have been filed against Parmley.
