Per multiple reports, Florida Atlantic University will accept an invitation to join Conference USA and begin play in 2014.
Why FAU?
FAU has invested heavily in its football program. The Owls play at two year old FAU Stadium, a $70 million facility built on campus. Under first year coach Carl Pelini, son of Nebraska’s Bo Pelini, FAU sits at 3-8 with one remaining game this season.
Veteran basketball coach Mike Jarvis lead the Owls to a Sun Belt regular season championship during the 2010-2011 season that included an NIT appearance.
What it means for C-USA
With today’s additions of FAU and Middle Tennessee, C-USA will host 12 football playing members during the 2014 season. In 2015 Old Dominion and Charlotte will also move its football programs into the league, growing the number of participants to 14.
