A few names have surfaced in various reports as finalist for Marshall’s basketball coach opening. Pittsburg assistant Tom Herrion was reportedly on campus yesterday, taking a tour with Athletic Director Mike Hamrick. Appalachian State Basketball coach Buzz Peterson interviewed with Hamrick at the final four and might be coming to Huntington for a second interview soon. Former Alabama head coach Mark Gottfried also interviewed in Indianapolis but may be angling for a higher profile job. Steve Henson, a assistant at Hamrick’s last AD stop UNLV, is also in the running.
Wake Forrest assistant coach Jeff Battle and WVU assistant Larry Harrison were mentioned early on as candidates but they have not been talked about since.
Basketball’s recruiting window opens on April 9th so we should have a new head coach before Friday.
