Marshall Football: Herd Wins Big at FIU, 48-10

Despite a first quarter Florida International (1-10, 1-6) lead, Marshall (8-3, 6-1) overcame its slow start to defeat the Golden Panthers 48-10 at Alfonso Field.

The Thundering Herd accumulated over 550 yards of total offense and the defense limited FIU to only 3.6 yards per play while recording seven sacks.

On Friday the Herd host East Carolina in a game that will determine Conference USA's East division champion. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.

A couple of highlights from Saturday's game:
  • Gator Hoskins recorded his first 100 yard receiving game, catching six passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns. Speaking of touchdowns, Hoskins 25 career scores now ranks first all time among Marshall tight ends. The previous record of 23 was held by Cody Slate.
  • With six receptions against FIU, Tommy Shuler became the first Marshall player to ever record consecutive 80 catch seasons.
  • Marshall last won back-to-back road games in 2004. The nine year drought was snapped over the last two weeks with road wins at Tulsa and FIU.
  • Marshall's last score was a 40 yard touchdown pass from back-up quarterback Blake Frohnapfel to reserve wide receiver Justin Hunt. A freshman, the touchdown was the first of Hunts career.
