Marshall Basketball: Herd Drops Game in Excruciating Fashion to Stephen F. Austin

Some games you lose, others slip right through your fingers. The latter happen to Marshall (2-2, 0-0) Thursday evening in a 80-73 overtime loss to Stephen F. Austin (3-1, 0-0) at the Cam Henderson Center. Up three points as the clock was about to expire, Thundering Herd forward TyQuane Goard inexplicably fouled Desmond Haymond while he was in the act of taking three-point shot. Haymond sunk all three of his free throw attempts, sending the Lumberjacks and Marshall into overtime.

In the extra period, Stephen F. Austin outscored the Herd 13-6, handing Marshall its second straight overtime loss.

Free throws continued to be a problem for the Thundering Herd. Marshall only converted eight of 24 attempts from the charity stripe. For the fourth straight game Elijah Pittman lead the Herd in scoring as he contributed 21 points.
