Despite playing without leading scorer Elijah Pittman for 35 minutes, Marshall was able to overcome an early 16 point deficit and defeat Western Kentucky 74-64 in the Cam Henderson Center Tuesday evening.
The Thundering Herd was lead by sophomore shooting guard Chris Thomas. He scored a game high 27 points while converting 12 of his 13 attempts from the free throw line.
Trailing 13-7 with just over 15 minutes left in
the first half, Pittman missed a shot and while running back on defense he forcibly
elbow the chest of Caden Dickerson, knocking the Hilltoppers guard to the
ground. After a video review by the referees, Pittman was assessed a Flagrant 2
Foul and ejected from the game.
Following Pittman's ejection the Herd stumbled, falling behind 24-8 before regaining their composer and bringing the halftime deficit to 36-30. Marshall completed the comeback by outscoring WKU 44-28 in the second half.
