Marshall Football: Herd Trounces UAB 56-14

Marshall secured its sixth win and bowl eligibility Saturday afternoon with a 56-14 victory over UAB at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Three Thundering Herd running backs, Stewart Butler (7 carries, 139 yards), Essray Taliaferro (12 carries, 118 yards), and Kevin Grooms (8 carries, 108 yards) all rushed for over 100 yards. In total, Marshall gained 381 rushing yards on 32 carries, good for 11.9 yards per attempt.

Quarterback Rakeem Cato broke a Marshall record previously held by Chad Pennington, throwing a touchdown pass for the 27th straight game. Cato finished the afternoon with 276 passing yards on 14 completions and three touchdowns. 

Marshall returns to action on Thursday at Tulsa. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET with television coverage provided by Fox Sports 1.
