Commissioner Britton Banowsky Touches on Issues Facing C-USA

Conference USA commissioner Britton Banowsky was at Joan C. Edwards Stadium yesterday, taking in Marshall's 56-14 win over UAB. During his afternoon in Huntington, Banowsky spoke with reporters and touched on a few subjects facing C-USA.

1) Banowsky envisions at least a couple years of quite on the realignment front with no plans to grow C-USA. The league will feature 13 football playing members next year after the additions of Western Kentucky and Old Dominion. Tulsa, Tulane, and ECU are playing their final seasons in C-USA. In 2015 UNC Charlotte comes on board, bringing the total number of football schools back to 14.

2) Accommodating the additions of Western Kentucky and ODU to the East division, Southern Miss will move to the West next year. Banowsky was noncommittal but, expect UAB to join the Golden Eagles migration from East to West in 2014 or 2015. This is how next years football divisions will look:

East
Marshall
ODU
W. Kentucky
FAU
ODU
Middle Tennessee

West
UTEP
UTSA
N. Texas
Southern Miss
Rice
La.Tech

TBA - UAB

3) This year's C-USA basketball tournament is set for El Paso Texas but, anything beyond that is still up in the air. Bankowsky is open to the annual event rotating among a number of host city's. He specifically mentioned Charlotte, home of new C-USA member UNC Charlotte, as a possibility.

4) We touched on this during a earlier post but, C-USA will not have a set bowl destination for its champion. For 16 of the past 17 years the league champ headed to the Liberty Bowl.
