Per the Twitter account of Charleston Gazette reporter Doug Smock, transfer Kelvin Amayo will officially join Marshall University's basketball team on Thursday.
Amayo transferred from Towson to Marshall last November after he was declared academically ineligible at the Maryland school.
A 6-foot-5, 200 pound point guard, Amayo was rated a three star prospect by Rivals.com coming out of NIA Prep (Newark, NJ). Besides Towson, Amayo also had scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Arizona, Oklahoma State, and Rice among many other schools.
Per NCAA transfer rules, Amayo has not been able to practice with the Herd. Given his long layoff, it is doubtful he will play in Saturday's game against Kentucky. Once ready, Amayo could be the ball handler Marshall is looking for while DeAndre Kane recovers from his hand injury.
