Despite finishing the season 5-7, nine Marshall football players took home individual awards when Conference USA announced its all conference teams yesterday.
C-USA’s leader in passing yards (4,201), completions (406), and touchdowns (37), Rakeem Cato was named the league’s first team quarterback. Cato’s favorite target and high school teammate Tommy Shuler was also a first team selection. Shuler lead C-USA with 110 receptions and finished second in receiving yards (1,138).
Safety Dominick LeGrand, tight end Gator Hoskins, and wide receiver Aaron Dobson were named to the second team. LeGrand lead the Herd with 132 tackles and tied for the team lead in interceptions, two. Hoskins eight touchdowns were the most of any FBS tight end, he also recorded 374 receiving yards. Although he missed two games while battling an injury, Dobson still managed to catch 57 passes for 741 yards and three touchdowns.
Marshall also had four players make the all freshman team, running back Kevin Grooms, offensive lineman Cameron Dees, linebacker D.J. Hunter, and punter Tyler Williams.
