Marshall Football: Petersen to be Named Offensive Coordinator at La.Tech

Per the Twitter account of Herald Dispatch columnist Chuck Landon, Marshall University co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tony Petersen will join Skip Holtz’s staff at Louisiana Tech as offensive coordinator.

A record setting quarterback for the Thundering Herd in the late 80’s, Petersen started his second coaching stint at Marshall in 2010. Petersen is credited with turning Rakeem Cato into one of college football’s premier quarterbacks. The sophomore from Miami was named Conference USA’s 2012 MVP and led the Football Subdivision in completions per game (33.83), passing yards per game (350.08), and was third in touchdown passes (37).

Although Petersen was an integral member of Marshall’s coaching staff, fellow co-offensive coordinator Bill Legg serves as the primary play caller. You can assume that Petersen will handle those duties at La.Tech.

With the Bulldogs joining C-USA next season, it won’t be long before Petersen has a chance to coach against his alma matter.
