Marshall Football: Week 2 game notes, Western Carolina

Western Carolina travels to Marshall University this Saturday as Joan C. Edwards stadium host its first football game of the 2012 season. The Catamounts got off to a hot start last week, beating Mars Hill College 42-14. Marshall did not match Western Carolina’s victory as the Thundering Herd dropped its season opener 69-34 at West Virginia.

The big story line this week centers around former Marshall and current Western Carolina quarterback Eddie Sullivan. Sullivan joined the Thundering Herd football program in 2010, completing six of 24 passes for 134 yards and one touchdown as a true freshman. Entering 2011 Sullivan planned to redshirt after being moved to third on the depth chart behind Rakeem Cato and A.J Graham.  When Graham went down with an injury in November Sullivan was thrust back into the role of primary backup. Instead of risking his redshirt Sullivan walked away from the Thundering Herd and re-appeared on Western Carolina’s roster this summer. You can read about the former Marshall quarterbacks return to Huntington here, here, and here.

Below, you will find pre-game press conference transcripts for Marshall coach Doc Holliday and Western Carolina’s Mark Spier. Game notes furnished by both schools are also provided.
