Marshall Baseball: Herd close to series with WVU & Straily returns to majors

According to an article in today's Beckley Register Herald, Marshall and WVU are close to signing a three game baseball series for the 2013 season. Each match-up would occur at a different location, the Mountaineers Hawley Field, Charleston's Appalachian Power Park, and Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley. Speaking with Charleston Daily Mail reporter Derek Redd, Marshall athletic director Mike Hamrick indicated the series had been discussed but a deal has not yet been finalized.

In other Thundering Herd baseball news former Marshall pitcher Dan Straily has been recalled by the Oakland Athletics. Straily could replace injured starter Brandon McCarthy in the A's rotation. After making his major league debut on August 3rd Straily made two additional starts before he was sent back down to the minors. In his three appearances with Oakland Straily pitched 17 innings while accumulating an ERA of 3.18.
