Marshall Basketball: Wilkerson & Whiteside work out with NBA squads

With NBA training camps opening in three weeks two former Marshall basketball players are looking to earn roster spots.

After a strong performance in the NBA Summer League Tyler Wilkerson received an invitation to the San Antonio Spurs upcoming veteran camp. The Kentucky native has spent the past two years playing professionally in Israel after graduating from Marshall in 2010. If San Antonio likes what they see Wilkerson could be invited back for training camp.

Wilkerson’s former frontcourt partner, Hassan Whiteside, was cut by the Sacramento Kings in July but interest in the 7-footer has picked up recently. Over the past week Whiteside participated in workouts for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat. After being drafted 33rd overall in the 2010 NBA draft Whiteside made 19 appearances with Sacramento, averaging 5.8 minutes, 1.6 points, and 2.2 rebounds per game.
