First reported by the Twitter account of Charleston Daily Mail reporter Derek Redd, City College of San Francisco basketball player Shawn Smith has committed to Marshall University.
Information on Smith is scarce but, multiple websites list him at six-foot-six. A California native Smith spent his prep school years at Sacramento’s McClatchy High School. At McClatchy, Smith earned all-Metro Conference 1st team honors during his senior season. According to City College basketball coach Justin Labagh, Smith is relatively new to the game, having focused on football during his early high school career.
Smith played AAU basketball with Sacramento based Play Hard Play Smart. According to a 2011 article from NorCalPreps.com, Smith was recruited by the University of San Francisco, Utah Valley, and Washington out of high school.
Smith will graduate from City College this academic year and will have two seasons of eligibility left at Marshall beginning in 2013-2014.
