Marshall in the NFL: Cut Day

Today was the final round of cuts in the NFL as teams had to set 53 man rosters. The Following Marshall alumni were released today:

1. Lee Smith, Tight End, New England Patriots

Smith was a 5th round draft pick by the Patriots in 2011. New England decided to only keep two tight ends on it's active roster, Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.

2. Mario Harvey, Linebacker, Pittsburgh Steelers

Harvey joined the Steelers as a undrafted free agent and only appeared in one pre-season game, was slowed by a leg injury most of training camp.

3. Cody Slate, Tight End, Kansas City Chiefs

Slate lead the Chiefs in receiving yards during there third preseason game, catching two passes for 50 yards and a touchdown. Despite the solid performance Slate was cut today.

4. Daniel Baldridge, Offensive Tackle, Jacksonville Jaguars

Despite spending the majority of last season on Jacksonville's practice squad Baldridge was cut today.

* Former Marshall long snapper Chris Massey (St.Lous Rams) and defensive tackle Johny Jones (Miami Dolphins) were cut prior to today.

The following Marshall alumni survived cut day:

1. Ahmad Bradshaw, Running Back, New York Giants

2. C.J Spillman, Safety, San Francisco 49ers

3. Chris Crocker, Safety, Cincinnati Bengals

4. Doug Legursky, Guard / Center, Pittsburgh Steelers

5. Byron Lefwich, Quarterback, Pittsburgh Steelers*

* On injured reserved, broken arm.

6. Albert McCellan, Linebacker, Baltimore Ravens
