Open letter to WV Senator Robert Plymale

Last week Chuck Landon wrote an article about West Virginia Senate Bill number 588 which was sponsored by WV senator Bob Plymale. West Virginia Senate Bill number 588 would take the authority given to each state University’s board of governors and return it to the the Higher Education Policy Commission. Landon surmised that Plymale sponsored the bill because he was left out of Marshall's athletic director search. You can read the article here: http://www.herald-dispatch.com/sports/marshall/x331857325/Marshall-offended-wrong-guy-in-Plymale.

In response to the article I thought it would be important to see what Plymale's motivation was for sponsoring the Bill. In regards to that I emailed him a interview request last week. As you might imagine I have not heard back from senator Plymale but you can read what I wrote him below:

Senator Robert Plymale,

Hello, my name is __ and I am a alumni of Marshall University. On February 20th Chuck Landon of the Huntington Herald Dispatch wrote a column (
http://www.herald-dispatch.com/sports/marshall/x331857325/Marshall-offended-wrong-guy-in-Plymale) that centered around West Virginia Senate Bill number 588.

In the article Mr. Landon states that you sponsored bill 588 because of hard feelings dating back to Marshall’s search for a new athletic director. I would like to offer you a chance to respond to Mr. Landon’s column in a public forum.

I run a Marshall sports website called the Marshall Thundering Blog (
http://marshallthunderingblog.blogspot.com/). The Thundering Blog pulls Marshall athletic news into one place, it is not a forum for my personal opinion. What I am proposing is a open letter from you to Marshall’s constituents about the accusations levied in Mr. Landon’s column. As a concerned Marshall fan I would like to know your motivation for sponsoring the bill, I know many others feel the same way. I think an open letter would be the best way to get your true intent to the people. If you did decided to go with my proposal I would publish your letter and not edit it in any fashion. I think the Marshall Thundering Blog is a great avenue for your response to Mr. Landon because it is free, you can control the message, and it will reach a wide audience.

Thank you in advance for considering my proposal. Please take your time to review my blog and what I have written for you today. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
__

  1. "As you might imagine I have not heard back from senator Plymale but you can read what I wrote him below"... This statement is condescending and clearly made out to portray Mr. Plymale as an uncaring and unworthy senator. As for Senate Bill 588; if you were to actually read the bill, which is fully available to the public, then you might actually have a better understanding of Plymale's actions and the need for selective authority on the collegiate level. Not to mention, the unacknowledgement of other countless senators/representatives that have supported the bill other the Senator Plymale!!
