Candidates for Marshall's Next Head Basketball Coach

Here is a list of potential candidates that have been mentioned in multiple news stories:

Jeff Battle, assistant coach at Wake Forest University: Point guard at Marshall from 1981-85. Twenty plus years of assistant coaching experience.

Brian Poore, head coach West Virginia State: Former MU assistant to Greg White. Has a WVIAC title to his name at West Virginia State.

Bob Bolen, head coach Mountain State University: Two time NAIA national champion.

Steve Henson, assistant coach at UNLV: One of the top 25 assistant coaches in the country according to Rivals.com. Mike Hamrick was athletic director at UNLV

Buzz Peterson, head coach Appalachian State: His Mountaineers beat Marshall in the CIT. Former coach at Costal Carolina and Tennessee.

Jeff Boals, assistant coach at Ohio State: Former Marshall assistant under Greg White.

John Brannen, assistant coach Alabama: Played basketball at Marshall. Followed Anthony Grant (another former Billy Donovan assistant) from VCU to Alabama.

Geno Ford, head coach Kent State: Two postseason appearances in two years at Kent. Beat Tulsa in this years NIT.

Fran Fraschilla: Now a ESPN commentator Fraschilla has head coaching experience at Manhattan, St. John's and New Mexico.

Larry Harrison, assistant coach at West Virginia: Has worked with Huggins 11 season at Cincinnati and West Virginia, spending 2000-06 as Hartford's head coach in the interim.

Billy Kennedy, head coach Murray State: Won a NCAA tournament game this season, beating Vanderbilt in the first round.

Bobby Lutz: Fired as the head coach at Charlotte. Lutz, spent 12 years in North Carolina leading the 49ers to a mark of 70-42 and five NCAA appearances in C-USA before conference realignment. Since Charlotte joined the Atlantic 10 Lutz had gone 41 – 39 with two NIT appearances.

Pete Gillen: Former head coach at Xavier and most recently Virginia.

Mark Cline, assistant coach at Oklahoma: Two-time W.Va. State Player of the Year in basketball. Has followed Jeff Capel from VCU to Oklahoma.

Jeff Neubauer, head coach Eastern Kentucky: Neubauer has won 85 games and reached one NCAA Tournament at Eastern Kentucky. This season EKU won twenty games and participated in the CIT.

Bobby Gonzalez: Fired at Seton Hall after making this seasons NIT.
