Marshall University baseball starts its 2013 campaign today in Norfolk Virginia for a three game series against ODU.
Game time is scheduled for 3pm this afternoon with true freshman right hander Chase Boster making his first start for the Thundering Herd. Boster hails from the same high school, Colonial Forge in Stafford Va., as Marshall football twins Blake and Eric Frohnapfel.
On Saturday staff ace Aaron Blair climbs the hill for Marshall. The junior righty was named Conference USA’s preseason pitcher of the year by Baseball America. Tomorrows start is scheduled for 2pm.
Wayland Moore will lead the Herd during Sunday’s series finale at 1pm. In 17 appearances last season Moore punched up a 7.90 ERA while throwing 35.1 innings. The 6-foot-2 left handed senior did produce a strong strikeout to walk ratio, sitting down 31 batters compared to only 12 base on balls.
ODU was picked to finish 6th out of ten Colonial Athletic Association teams in a preseason poll conducted among the league’s coaches. The Monarchs are lead by sophomore outfielder Josh Eldridge who accumulated a .315 batting average in CAA games last year. Brandon Smith is a dangerous pitcher out of the bullpen, in 2012 he recorded eight wins and three saves.
