Marshall Football: Few scholarships remain with signing day around the corner

With national signing day only ten days away lets take a look at Marshall’s current recruiting class. I have broken down the Thundering Herd’s commitments into three categories, already on campus, solid verbal’s, and rumored verbal’s.

Please note, I am not including mid-year enrollees who were part of last years class, they are wide receiver Chris Alston, tight end Rakim Reed, defensive end Joe Massaquoi and cornerback Deontae West.

Already on Campus:

1) Gage Niemeyer, OL, Mount San Jacinto Community College (CA)

2) Ken Smith, DT, Blinn Community College (TX)

3) Corey Tindal, DB, Atlanta Sports Academy (GA)*

4) Kent Turene, LB Atlanta Sports Academy (GA)*

* Tindal and Turene Turene are academic non-qualifiers but the Marshall football staff is working to get both players cleared to participate in spring drills.

Solid Verbal’s:

1) Matt Cincotta, LS, Charlotte Catholic High School (NC)

2) Tyler Combs, OL, Lawrence County High School (KY)

3) Cameron Dees, OL, Armwood High School (FL)

4) Gunnar Holcombe, QB, University School (FL)

5) Devon Johnson, LB, Richlands High School (VA)

6) A.J Leggett, DB, South Miami High School (FL)

7) Josh Muriel, OL, Port St. Lucie High School (FL)

8) Ryan Riedel, LB, Cabell Midland High School (WV)

9) Billy Rone, OL, Glendale Community College (AZ)

10) Andre Scott, DB, Oak Ridge High School (FL)

11) Gary Thompson, LB, Helix Charter High School (CA)

12) Deyonte Henderson, LB, Oak Ridge High School (FL)

Rumored Verbal’s:

1) Chris Hall, TE, Fork Union Military Academy (VA)

2) Lavar Highsmith, LB, Dunbar High School (MD)

In total the Thundering Herd currently has 18 possible commitments. Marshall head coach Doc Holliday has focused on three positions in this recruiting class, offensive line, linebacker and defensive back. Out of MU’s 18 current commitments those positions account for 14 spots.

Look for the Herd to add a few more players in the coming days and don’t forget, the Marshall Thundering Blog is your best source for free football recruiting news!
