A number of former Marshall University players and coaches are now leading high school football teams around the country. Here is a short list of MU alumni currently coaching at the high school level and a summary of their 2011 season. If I left any one out please let me know by leaving a comment in this post.
1) George Chaump, Central Dauphin H.S (Harrisburg PA), Marshall head football coach 1986-1989
A long time High School football coach in the Harrisburg Pennsylvania area, George Chaump lead Central Dauphin to a 5-6 record during his first season at the school.
2) John Shannon, Biloxi H.S (Biloxi MS), Marshall offensive coordinator under Mark Snyder
During his second year at Biloxi High School, John Shannon lead the Indians to a 10-3 regular season record. Biloxi’s season ended in a second round playoff loss to Petal High School, 38-27.
3) Chris Hanson, Trinity Christian School (Sharpsburg GA), Marshall punter 1996-1999
Trinity Christian School took it’s lumps this season transitioning from eight to eleven man football, finishing with a 1-8 record. It was former Marshall punter Chris Hanson’s first year leading the program.
4) Luke Salmons, Cabell Midland H.S (Ona WV), Marshall offensive lineman 2001-2003
In his first season as head coach at Cabell Midland High School, Luke Salmons lead the Knights to 8-4 regular season before losing to Bridgeport in the second round of West Virginia’s AAA playoffs. One of Salmons star players, linebacker Ryan Riedel, has accepted a scholarship to play at Marshall next year.
