After snapping a two game losing streak in a win
over UNC Wilmington last week, Marshall (3-2, 0-0) returns to the Cam Henderson
Center on Tuesday (7 p.m. tip-off) for a match-up against Western Kentucky
(3-1, 0-0).
The Hilltoppers have qualified for two straight NCAA Tournaments and were the preseason favorite to win the Sun Belt Conference. They
return four starters from last year’s squad including preseason All-Sun Belt
first team selection T.J. Price. Western Kentucky’s leading scorer, Price averages
18 points per game.
After missing the season’s first three games with an sprained
foot, WKU’s Brandon Harris saw his first action of the year against Samford
last week. Projected to be the team’s starting point guard, Harris played 12
minutes against the Bulldogs, scoring three points while committing just as
many assist (two) as turnovers.
George Fant (13 ppg) is the only other Hilltopper averaging double-digit
points. The 6-foot-6 forward also leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game.
Tuesday’s contest is the third of four in the Roundball
Showcase, an NCAA exempt event that only counts as two games on Marshall’s
schedule. The Herd has already played Stephen F. Austin and UNCW, the final
game will take place Saturday when East Tennessee
State visits the Henderson Center.
