According to Chuck Landon of the Herald Dispatch, Marshall’s football series against the United States Naval Academy has been moved to the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
It had been previously announced that the Herd and Midshipmen were to square off at Navy in 2016 with a return trip scheduled for Huntington in 2018.
When Navy joined the Big East its future football schedules was thrown into flux. As an independent the Mids booked 12 opponents every season, as members of the Big East they only need four out of conference games per year. Three of those spots are taken up by long time rivals Army, Air Force, and Notre Dame leaving Navy with just one other game to fill.
As you can read in the article Marshall athletic director Mike Hamrick reached out to Navy AD Chet Gladchuk and was able to save the series. Now, the Thundering Herd will visit the Naval Academy in 2021 while Navy will be Marshall’s home opener in 2022.
