Marshall Football: Scrimmage #2, 8/18/12

What a difference a week can make. After racking up over 600 yards during last Saturday's scrimmage Marshall's offense found few opportunities against a motivated defensive unit today.

The defense made a number of big plays, none bigger than linebacker Cortez Carter's interception of freshman quarterback Gunnar Holcombe, returned for an 86 yard touchdown. Former Penn State corner back Derrick Thomas also grabbed an interception thrown by Rakeem Cato.

Despite getting outplayed by their defensive counterparts the offense did have a few bright spots. Shedding his red no contact jersey quarterback Blake Frohnapfel completed 12 of 19 passes for 116 yards. Showing impressive running skills the redshirt freshman also rushed for 48 yards on five attempts with a touchdown. Sophomore Craig Wilkins also had a solid afternoon, catching a team high eight passes for 89 yards.
