Marshall Football: Week Six Game Notes, Tulsa

Marshall (2-3,1-0) returns to Joan C. Edwards Stadium Saturday afternoon for a Conference USA showdown against Tulsa (4-1,2-0). The Golden Hurricanes crushed the Herd in Oklahoma last year, 59-17 and they will bring a strong group to Huntington this weekend.

Any conversation about Tulsa has to start with their defense. Ranked first in C-USA the Golden Hurricanes have limited opponents to 21.5 points per game. Tulsa also leads all of college football with 26 sacks.

On offense the Golden Hurricanes use a strong running game to move the ball. Tulsa features a three headed attack lead by junior Ja’Terian Douglas. The Texas native has rushed for 374 yards on 51 attempts, a 7.3 yards per carry average, with four touchdowns. Right behind Douglas, fellow junior Trey Watts has carried the ball 46 times for 363 yards and two touchdowns. Wrapping up the trio, six-foot-one, 260 pound senior Alex Singleton is the short yardage back, rumbling his way to 242 yards and a team high eight touchdowns.

Nebraska transfer Cody Green pilots Tulsa at quarterback. Green has been up and down in the passing game, barley completing 50 percent of his attempts while also throwing six interceptions to nine touchdowns. He does have the ability to pull the ball down and run. Last week against UAB, Green scored from 45 yards out on a quarterback keeper.
