Today’s update is slightly Herd related. It looks like the Arena Football League will completely fold and not come back from their 2009 suspended season. So why is this Marshall related? The arena league has been a haven for numerous Marshall alumni over the years. Most recently former Herd defensive back Chris Royal (Georgia Force). It sucks that this avenue to continue playing football will be closed.
God knows the Huntington WV community is familiar with arena/indoor football teams shutting down. The tri-state area has lost three indoor football franchises, the Locomotives, Heroes, and Wild which never even played a game. Yes there are other indoor football leagues around but those options don’t offer as steady or lucrative pay as the AFL did.
Any way, may the AFL rest in peace.
From the New York Times, Arena Football Not Quite Dead Yet, but Barely Breathing
