Earlier this week former Marshall University pitchers Arik Sikula and Ian Kadish started their professional careers with the Bluefield Blue Jays. With eight members of the Thundering Herd baseball team drafted a few of Sikula and Kadish’s former teammates have begun their pro-ball journeys too.

Marshall reliever Greg Williams was drafted in the 12th round by the Texas Rangers. As a junior Williams decided to bypass his senior year and sign a proffesional contract, he has been assigned to the Rangers rookie league affiliate in Arizona.

Another Marshall player to skip his senior year, outfielder Rhett Stafford (drafted 22nd round), is also in the Arizona rookie league for the Oakland Athletics.

Senior Infielder Kenny Socorro, drafter in the 44th round by the Chicago Cubs, is with the organizations short season A ball team in Bosie Idaho, the Hawks.

Other Thundering Herd players drafted as under classman, Isaac Ballou, Joe Church, and Shane Farrell have not signed professional contracts and can still return to Marshall next season. The deadline to sign a major league deal is August 15th.
