"Anyway, first, the word is out that Holliday could try to hire away two other WVU aides - fellow Hurricane native Steve Dunlap (who left Huntington in 2007) and Chris Beatty - as his Herd defensive and offensive coordinators, respectively. With Marshall Athletic Director Mike Hamrick out raising funds to enhance assistant coaching salaries among other items, I don't think it's out of the question. "
2. "Then, there's the buyout in Holliday's new five-year, $600,000 annual contract, plus incentives like the usual bowl and conference title bonuses.
The buyout is $3 million - "huge," Hamrick said Thursday - each way for starters, reducing annually by Holliday's base and supplemental pay ($600,000). So, if Doc decides to leave Herdland after two seasons, the buyout is $1.8 million ... except a clause in the contract allows Hamrick to annually designate one school for which, if Holliday wants to go there, the coach's buyout remains locked at $3 million."
3. "In the last 10 days, while he was doing formal interviews with six coaching candidates - Butch Jones might have been the man, but Cincinnati gave him a $1.1 million annual deal for five years - Hamrick has raised about $1.5 million from 27 boosters for MU football.
The Marshall alumnus-AD said Thursday he is trying to find 40 Big Green Foundation members to pony up $10,000 annually over five years for a total of at least $2 million. He's three-fourths of the way there. Already, four or five contributors have pledged $100,000 in $20,000 increments."
"Holliday's hire is likely to bring more bucks on board. Hamrick said the football enhancement fund of at least $400,000 annually is to be used to "pay Doc's contract (about $200,000 more than former coach Mark Snyder was making annually), bring in the assistant coaches he wants and enhance the facilities we have."
4. "Hamrick's springtime intention is to launch a separate fundraising drive for an indoor practice facility - a much-needed addition for the northernmost C-USA program and one that retired Herd AD Bob Marcum tried to get off the ground more than five years ago.
Hamrick estimates a $5 million need for that."
