Marshall Basketball: Two Quick Notes
CBSports.com has shown Marshall University’s basketball team a little bit of love the past two days.
Yesterday Jeff Borzello published an interesting article on Marshall’s sizable group of transfers. The story features quotes from head coach Tom Herrion and focuses on his efforts to integrate new players into the Marshall program. Take a look at it here.
Also, on “Courtside with Seth Davis”, Marshall was mentioned as a mid-major team that could make noise during this years NCAA basketball tournament. See video of the clip here.

Weekly review of Marshall University alumni in the NFL:
1. Ahmad Bradshaw, Running Back, New York Giants
Ahmad Bradshaw sat out the Giants 24-20 win over New England with a broken bone in his foot. Bradshaw hopes to return from injury this week.
2. C.J Spillman, Safety, San Francisco 49ers
C.J Spillman registered one special teams tackle during San Francisco’s 19 – 11 win over Washington.
3. Chris Crocker, Safety, Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals won their fifth straight game Sunday as they took down Tennessee 24-17. Chris Crocker was credited with one tackle and one assisted tackle during the win.
4. Doug Legursky, Guard/Center, Pittsburgh Steelers
Doug Legursky missed his third straight game with a dislocated tow as the Baltimore Ravens defeated Pittsburgh 23-20.
5. Byron Lefwich, Quarterback, Pittsburgh Steelers*
* On injured reserved, broken arm.
6. Albert McClellan, Linebacker, Baltimore Ravens
Playing special teams and seeing spot duty at outside linebacker Albert McClellan recorded two tackles during Baltimore’s 23-20 win over Pittsburgh.
7. Lee Smith, Tight End, Buffalo Bills
For the second week in a row Lee Smith did not register a catch or special teams tackle during Buffalo’s 27-11 loss to the Jets.

Marshall Football: Verbal Commitment Watch, Week 12
The Marshall Thundering Blog looks back on last weeks high school football action and reviews the performance of every Marshall verbal commitment.
1. Tyler Combs, OL, Lawrence County High School (KY)
Lawrence County won their first round playoff game over Morgan County 21-14 Friday night. With the win Lawrence will travel to Belfry High School this week for a second round matchup. Earlier this season Belfry defeated the Bull Dogs 48-6.
2. Devon Johnson, LB/RB, Richlands High School (VA)
Richlands completed a perfect 10-0 regular season win a 69-18 win over Tazwell Friday night. Devon Johnson had eight rushing attempts for 123 yards and three touchdowns during the victory. Richlands will continue into the post season following a bye week when they return to action on Nov. 18 in the regional semifinals.

3. Trenton Norvell, QB, Seabreeze High School (FL)
Trenton Norvell had a tough Friday night as Seabreeze lost to Mainland 40-9. For the game Norvell completed just two of fifteen passes for 40 yards, was intercepted twice and fumbled the ball once. Seabreeze has an off week before traveling to Winter Haven for a first round playoff matchup.

4. Ryan Riedel, LB, Cabell Midland High School (WV)
Ryan Riedel recorded a forced fumble and fumble recovery during Cabell Midland’s 23-14 win over Hurricane Friday night. As a whole the Cabell Midland defense held Hurricane to 231 yards of total offense. Cabell Midland will host Wheeling Park in a first round playoff game this week.

With the aid of three defensive touchdowns Magna Vista defeated Bassett 27-14 Friday night. The win capped a perfect regular season for Magna Vista and secured a first round playoff bye.

6. Matt Cincotta, LS/LB, Charlotte Catholic High School (NC)
Long snapper Matt Cincotta found his target on every field goal and punt attempt during Charlotte Catholic’s 42-14 first round playoff win over Hickory. Charlotte Catholic travels to undefeated Marvin Ridge for a second round playoff game this Friday.

7. Cameron Dees, OL, Armwood High School (FL)
Armwood capped it’s perfect regular season with a 54-6 win over King High School Friday night. With the win Armwood secured an open week to prepare for the playoffs.

Despite scoring on their first play from scrimmage Port Charlotte fell to Charlotte 21-7 Friday night.

Marshall Football: Zach Hall commits to Herd
Zach Hall, a 6’6, 300 lbs offensive lineman from Port Charlotte High School (FL) has verbally committed to Marshall. The Herald Tribune ranked Hall one of the top 25 football recruits in Sarasota Florida heading into this football season. Marshall is also pursuing Hall’s teammate Marcus Gilchrist, a three star defensive end prospect.
