Marshall Football: Jeremiah Taylor ineligible for WVU game

Marshall University defensive end Jeremiah Taylor has been ruled ineligible by the NCAA for tomorrows game against WVU. Taylor, who was scheduled to start opposite Vinny Curry, will be held out due to a clerical error, for all the details read this New York Times article:

Marshall in the NFL: Cut Day

Today was the final round of cuts in the NFL as teams had to set 53 man rosters. The Following Marshall alumni were released today:

1. Lee Smith, Tight End, New England Patriots

Smith was a 5th round draft pick by the Patriots in 2011. New England decided to only keep two tight ends on it's active roster, Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.

2. Mario Harvey, Linebacker, Pittsburgh Steelers

Harvey joined the Steelers as a undrafted free agent and only appeared in one pre-season game, was slowed by a leg injury most of training camp.

3. Cody Slate, Tight End, Kansas City Chiefs

Slate lead the Chiefs in receiving yards during there third preseason game, catching two passes for 50 yards and a touchdown. Despite the solid performance Slate was cut today.

4. Daniel Baldridge, Offensive Tackle, Jacksonville Jaguars

Despite spending the majority of last season on Jacksonville's practice squad Baldridge was cut today.

* Former Marshall long snapper Chris Massey (St.Lous Rams) and defensive tackle Johny Jones (Miami Dolphins) were cut prior to today.

Marshall in the NFL: Mario Harvey cut by Pittsburgh

Former Marshall linebacker Mario Harvey has been cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Harvey joined Pittsburgh's roster as a undrafted free agent in August and dealt with leg injury most of training camp. Due to the leg injury he only appeared in Pittsburgh's last preseason game, registering three tackles.

Marshall Football: Antonio Wells commits to Herd

Antonio Wells, a 6'3, 265 pound defensive end from Magna Vista High School (VA), has verbally committed to Marshall. Wells, who was also receiving interest from Virginia, ECU, and Liberty is scheduled for a official visit to Marshall on September 9th.

Marshall Football: Kevin Grooms enrolls at MU

Per Chuck McGill of the Charleston Daily Mail, former Miami commitment Kevin Grooms will enroll at Marshall later today. Grooms comes to Marshall as a academic non-qualifier and will be ineligible this season. A 5’10, 170 pound athlete from South Broward High School (FL), Grooms was rated a three star prospect by Rivals.com. Scout.com listed him as the 16th best cornerback prospect for 2010.
