Snyder to be Paid

Mike Hamrick told the Charleston Daily Mail former head football coach Mark Snyder will be paid through his contract:

Hamrick told the Daily Mail that Snyder will be paid the remaining three seasons on his contract, which runs through June 30, 2013.
"We will still honor our contractual obligations to Mark," Hamrick said. "It's the right thing to do."

The Herd will pay a buyout that has been estimated in the $537,000 range. All assistant coaches will be paid for the duration of their contracts and are expected to remain in Huntington for any bowl preparation.

Rick Minter to Coach in Bowl Game

Defensive coordinator Rick Minter will serve as interim coach if Marshall plays in a bowl game. As a provisionally eligible team, there appears to be just one opportunity, albeit a likely one -- if Army loses to Navy, the Herd would take Army's spot in the Washington-based EagleBank Bowl on Dec. 29. There will be a long wait for that determination, as Army and Navy do not play until Dec. 12.

Eastman & Beaudine, to Help With Coach Search

It looks like Eastman and Beaudine will help with our football coach search, from Chuck Landon of the Herald Dispatch on June 10th 2010:

Speaking of executive recruitment firms such as Eastman & Beaudine, this is how they operate.
They are somewhat like a law firm on retainer.

When they are hired to do one job search, the client university also is obligated to the firm for the school’s next athletic job search.

Take SMU, for example.

Eastman & Beaudine handled the Mustangs’ search for a new athletic director. They successly landed Steve Orsini, who had been UCF’s athletic director, for SMU.

So, then, when the Mustangs were in the market for a new men’s head basketball coach, Eastman & Beaudine also filled that vacancy.

That’s how SMU got current coach Matt Doherty.

Orsini has worked out well.

Doherty?

Not so much.

It just goes to show that sometimes with executive recruitment firms, a university has to take the good with the bad.
